My first tour with KRPano

  • hi all,

I've just "finished" a virtual tour of Hampi, India, with KRPano (^_^)

Hampi Virtual Tour - India '09

I would be glad to get your feedback about it!

I went to India for business purpose and team mates told me to go to Hampi, a great India Temples place. I love old stones and I was very happy with this idea. 97 panoramas from there, with dynamic maps.

    Tell me ;)

  • Hi ,

very nice... a bit heavy.. maybe make the pictures smaller and let the sound start after onload complete... also the sound button works the wrong way.. if there is no sound it says stop sound..

Good job though... like to go there

    Cheers

    Tuur *thumbsup*

  • Argh!

The server is quite slow, true. The pano is multires with 4 levels, so I expected it to load up faster than it looks like to. I guess the audio file is a bottleneck, too. As far as I do not use preload or what but directly the plugin call and a "onstart=playsound"...

I'll work this out asap :)

About Hampi, it is an old city next to a big and pretty old temple (2,000 years old, for its heart part, finished in early XV century). The tour is about the temples that surround the inner temple. There, a temple is maybe a single pile of old stone, so don't be affraid if some of them are just arcade or houselike stuff... :) There is about hundred of temples (constructions) near Hampi.

I come back with some news (but just being patient should be a way to solve the issue ;))

    Best regards,

    Paul

  • Hi Anoril,

Great tour *smile* , I like the GUI *thumbup*
It seems your mp3 to be really heavy and loaded at first (4mb in 2:15 minutes to be loaded for me)... that's make the tour to be really slow before loaded...

For a first tour it is impressive. Well done. *thumbsup*

    Salut.

  • Ah, yes, it appears th eMP3 is really the trouble stuff... Well, I will resample it down...

About the sound buttons, I'm suprised... It works fine for me ^^ Maybe the sound is too low, no? Or maybe a lag... Hum, I'll check that also.

Images at max are 4096*8192 and about 3Mio each (but downgraded to 4 levels of multires...). I'm not sure to be able to get smaller resolution files whitout having poor quality stuff (my camera is already poor in resolution, so....)

    Thanks for your feelings :)

  • Hooy !

    I tried what you proposed!

    • Images reduced in weight, JPEG 65 instead of 80; Color sampling 411 instead of 420 : 280Mio instead of 485Mio *whistling*
    • Sound resampling from 44KHz, 128Kbps to 8KHz, 56Kbps (gasp, no problem: I'm deaf *squint* ) : 545Kio instead of 3Mio
    • I placed the sound load at the end of the process... (I hope, not yet used with Flash way of dealing with xml stuff) *unsure*

The result is uploading on the (weak) server... Hope this will help *rolleyes*

    Thanks a lot!

  • Yosh!

I tried from another PC with lowbandwith... Gosh! It toke ages to loadup... Well well well, maybe the 5Mb initial SWF is guilty...

By the way, prepare for boreness *squint* It is a 92 pnoramas tour (I forgot to place the 5 at the hotel) along Hampis temples. The music drives you crazy in less than five minutes and there is no historical information added (not yet?). I have to place textual stuff about temples and places, detailed images of interesting points (statues, towers, people...) but actually, I'm out of a two week work of linked the whole shebang into one single tour (^_^) The hardest part I believe was to place that damned arrows and make the zoomin/zoomout fades the right way *wacko*

I'm not happy with the way to link between areas (on the region map, presse '-' button) because I guess it is not clear enough for a non used visitor. And I found some issues with the radar location and "red" dot... A bug? Sometimes the red dot is in place, sometimes not... Weird.

Well, I'm preparing a 33 shots Castle tour from Septmont's Dungeon and I have headhackes thinking about that *cry*

    Thanks for listening *g*

  • Hi Anoril,

I really like it. It does take ages to load and don't even have speakers on my PC so I don't benefit from the music. But...

The thing I really like is your technique, the fact that for the most part, you move to a hotspot, an when you load the next pano you are standing where you clicked.

I know this method does not suit all situations and locations but it works very well here. I feel I can have a proper look around the place without ever going there and rather than just seeing the main highlights I feel I can actually have a proper walk around. I am planning to capture a similar tour in a large zoo near where I live.

Great tripod and tripod shadow removal too.

    Thanks for posting it.

  • Hi Tangeant!

Thanks for your kind message *smile*

In fact, when taking shot, I was lost in my thoughts and took too much photographs then I realised I just walk few feets away from the last shot *squint* But actually, I found this kind of "Google Street View" fine for this place as you can, as you say, wander around where you "want"... By the way, as my first project with KRPano and my first travel to India, I guess I did not realise I took too much for a simple tour. Next time, I would take less panos, and some more interesting as displaye din this tour (some are very useless *whistling* )

About the loading time, I did do my best, but the main SWF file is about 5Mb and I think it is because of "minimaps" and previews (93!) embedded... I'll definitly remove them from the KRProtect...

Actually, I took the photographs with no tripod *unsure* because my Manfrotto was too heavy for my luggage limit... Thus, I learned a ninja technic to take almost correct pano handheld... But you can find on several panos that there are parallax issues... And because of the hour of my visit, a large part of it was taken at noon and the sun was right above then I did not managed to completely remove my own shadow... Happily Gimp is with me *w00t*

(I updated the site with a new map with area linked in blue arrows and a new start screen for help...)

Zoo is a pretty good idea and the point to point tour will surely fit well to this kind of place where every foot is a interesting place!

    Thanks again for your comment!

    Regards,

    Paul

  • hi paul ,

very nice and smooth here in holland. ADSL

i suggest that you make the actions smoother like:

and then the smooth(60,60,60) part...i like 40 aswell

    cheers

    Tuur *thumbsup*

  • It's much better than the first time : it comes faster and we don't have to wait for endless seconds or minutes...

What I like : a real and complete work. Congratulations.

What I don't like : the arrows on the visits : ugly !

What could be improved : the colours of your visits (a little "dull"). Don't hesitate to enlighten the colours next time (too much "grey" I suppose). Spending time on Photoshop is not lost time. You will enjoy it very soon.

    Ma *smile*

  • Hiho!

    Thanks for the feedback.
Arrows are a draft I drawn in late night but I was happy with them *unsure* I'll see how to get them more compliant. Same for the GUI. I was trying to create something to use in other tour, so not too much typical. White and grey is definitely not the point :) Will try to improve that too!

(ok, found the 'smooth' doc. Is it working with quaternion?)

    Thanks again!

    Regards,

    Paul
