We would like to invite you to the virtual tour, which presents a unique distinguish place.
It is an exhibition of a man, who was imprisoned in the concentration camp. After many years he started drawing his emotions.
Marian Kolodziej was born in 1921, polish artist, theatrical and movie stage designer. He was a prisoner in German Auschwitz concentration camp since first day of its existence, that is since 14th June 1940 – camp number 432. Since September 1944 until 6th May 1945 he was also prisoned in Gross Rose, Breslau-Lissa, Buchenwal, Sachsenhausen and Matthhausen-Ebense.
After the war he has graduated the scenography department of ASP in Cracow and then worked in the Wybrzeze Theatre in Gdansk, where he made almost 200 stage designs. He has also made scenography designs for the other theatres in Poland and abroad, and for different movies. In his creativity he hasn’t issue the camp subjects and he has been silent about the past times of the war for almost 50 years of his life.
In the beginning of the ’90, due to the tough disease, he felt poet Herbert’s words: “You survived not for living. There is no time, you have to prove.” And he created a cycle of works “Memory Frames. Labyrinths”, where he relates to his private camp experiences. Through his words-painting, which create Memory Frames, he introduces us into the labyrinths of memories about how he survived and what he experienced in the Auschwitz hell.
